Gameplay session: Matter is still too effing difficult

  • Niece: You idiot move to the left! Don't you see there is a way there?
  • Niece's friend: Shut up stupid! There is no path there, I'm stuck! Juan help me come on!
  • Me: No
  • Niece's friend: Please! There is no way ... oh wait
  • Niece: See what I told you, idiot!

These were my little girl stressed testers yesterday (yes, they give friend love each other thru those insults)

Curiously, one of them actually managed (with my help) to finally be the very first player to pass all my 6 levels! An achievement nobody has ever reached but me.

You see... Matter still has issues with progression and conveyance

  • Players don't know where to go
  • Matter being difficult is not the issue, the issue is that its just too difficult way too soon

I think the game is expecting the player to get experienced with jumping and mastering the matter device just too soon, he doesn't know that with the matter device, if mastered, he can replace platforms, elevators and ladders with this device

Being mastered with this and knowing where to go, would make level 2 a challenging but balanced level to play, but right now being a novice player, level 2 is way too difficult, as it requires a lot of exploration, when there has no been a reward or even an exploration challenge before in any previous level

I'll refactor level 2, it's just too difficult too soon, level 3 also needs adjustments that are already in progress since Sunday, level 4 is ok but needs some adjustments in the latest challenge, level 5 needs conveyance and I myself don't like the challenge I placed there, I'll see what can I do there, also I need to teach somehow to the player that he can use matter on water without a grid, or maybe place a grid that displays matter differently when close to water. Level 6 is just too difficult and has no guidance at all

After that, I'll upload a new build and hopefully this one would be easy enough to be played by even mid-core gamers

See you next time!
